Things You Don’t Need Anymore: Don’t Let Them Sleep! Bring Back to Use Again.

It’s not that easy to discard things, so you keep and let them sleep for years in your closet.

Even when you know how and where to discard, sometimes you don’ want to part with them because they have your strong attachment.

“Attached feeling” comes not only from memories but from the price or sometimes from religious reasons.

At such time, it may lighten your feeling if you know the right way to part with them. Just imagine your things are going to be used again, you will be enjoy the process and feel happy!

Ways to Make Them Revive

Clothes: Get Bought in Recycle Shop

If you haven’t put them on for a year or two, you will never wear them again no matter how high you had paid. Then, got to a recycle shop and get them bought. Then, someone might pick one up and be happy with her or his new collection.

But be aware there is always a seasonal timing. If you go to the shop at the end of a season, the shop wouldn’t buy. They have to maximize their business chances. So when you sort your clothes, you should pick up the ones from the fore coming season.

It depends on the way of thinking. JPY10 or JPY20 is better than throwing away. If you can think like that, then you feel happy imagining your clothes would be useful somewhere.

Some of the retailers take over your worn out clothes, so you should check your favorite retailers would do that when you go there to buy a new one.

Electric Appliances

Basically, you use electric appliances until they are broken. But sometimes you have to let them go for inevitable reasons such as moving.

Again, ask a recycle shop. If you have more than one, they will come to your house and give you a free quote. So, contact them first before you go to the shop.

But be aware that most of the shops price them only when appliances are manufactured within last two years even though they are almost brand new. So make sure to tell the year of manufacture beforehand.

On the other hand, if you were a customer of the shop, it is a good information to know that the shop handles quite new products. So, when you need something quick at reasonable cost, visit a recycle shop. You may find a bargain.

Books with No Bar Code

The book purchasing specialist like BOOKOFF will price your books even from one EXCEPT FOR the old books without barcodes. I did find myself such “books like fossil” in my parents’ house.

In such a case, ask a privately owned second-hand book store instead of a big chain stores. Some of them are interested in “old” books.

In my case, I found a very fine complete works of literature in my parents’ house, so I asked a hospital to line up them in the coffee room of the inpatient ward. Donation is one option.

I paid the shipping fee, but I felt happy imagining that those books to be a little help of patients’ fun.

Not only books but also magazines and guide books are sometimes are priced. So ask the specialists before throwing away.

Jewels and Accessories

I don’t have such fancy jewelries. Is that what you think?

If you look into your closet, you may find one or two.

A generation ago, a jewel was sometimes a means to express people’s social status. A ring with a big stone, a heavy necklace given by your parents. Don’t you find one or two in your drawer?

Although they don’t occupy the space much, they will be forgotten unless you take an action.

Take the courage to consider about remodeling or selling.

Remodeling

Remodeling? It is expensive! Is that the reason you are hesitating? If so, just imagine which is better. You have ten jewelries which you never wear OR just one you like, so you wear frequently.

Things depend on how you think!

But where is the best remodeling shop? Yes, that comes next.

You might frequently see the signs, “we will accept remodeling.” Yet I myself did not have a courage to knock the door. I asked a jewel corner in the department store or a brand shop, but neither did not ring my bell.

Both of them asked me, “give us your remodeling image, then, we will try to remake yours as near as we can.” But I’m not a jewel designer. I can’t have the remodeled image! I have no fashion sense!

How many years passed by without a solution?

Then one day, I found a pair of ear rings in a small accessory shop. Looking around store, I found many of them were my taste. So, I asked the shop for remodeling. They had no sign outside, but they willingly accepted my request.

From there, everything went so quickly. I could tell them the exact image of remodeling, because the samples were all there in the store.

So, when you don’t know where to go, please ask your favorite jewel store for remodeling. They are not only for selling, but they will also help you for remodeling.

Another point is that don’t bring in just one, but bring all you have. They might give you an unexpected combination using two models. Some of them became totally new just by polishing. Some of the brooches were not remodeled, but changed into “Obi” stopper or pendant head just buying a small attachment.

For those cannot be remodeled, I asked the store for purchase. Then, I used that money for remodeling expense.

Now, I am very happy wearing my mother’s jewelries, OLD but NEW ones.

TRY! And you will be happy for sure!

Get them bought

When you don’t really need or want them, go to a specialist to get them bought.

But be aware that stones are not priced as much as you paid high. You should think they are almost no price. Metallic parts are priced: platinum, gold and silver. They are weighed and priced by market.

Try to visit at least two specialists though they price by market. In my case, there were almost JPY100,000 difference between two. One was the specialist shop I went as a walk-in customer and the other was the accessory shop I asked for remodeling.

Don’t rush and take your time, because your jewels were in your drawers for years!

Kimono: see the light of the day?

You may have a pile of Kimonos in your drawers.

I haven’t put them on since my daughter’s high school entrance ceremony. Or was it for junior high? Oh no, maybe at “Shichigo-san” ceremony? You don’t even remember when.

We call it as “Tansu no Koyashi” which means fertilizer for chest of drawers. It is nothing but a thing to make chest fat. Unuseful and no need.

It was once a tradition in Japan for a mother to buy a couple of Kimonos for her daughter when she gets married. It was a big event in life, so the mother bought very nice ones. They must be very expensive and priceless. But you don’t wear them anymore and you can’t discard either.

Even if you decided to get them bought, you believe they would be priced high. But NO.

Perhaps you feel sad, because they are priced almost zero. If you use a train to go to the Kimono recycle shop, perhaps train fair is higher than the kimono price.

Rather than feeling sad, why don’t you remake them into something you use or give them all away to the remake specialists who would remodel your kimono into something someone would enjoy.

Some specialists remodel your kimono into umbrellas and bags.
